Takatsuka Takes Over the Women’s Basketball Program

Honolulu, HI (July 11, 2011) – The Hawai'i Pacific Athletics Department has announced that Reid Takatsuka will take over as the Interim Head Women's Basketball Coach. Takatsuka is being promoted from Jeff Harada's staff, where he served as the top assistant for the last three seasons.

During his three years as an assistant, the Sea Warriors went 50-29. In 2010, Takatsuka was on the staff that guided HPU to its first conference championship and NCAA regional berth. Takatsuka has developed a relationship with this veteran team that returns six seniors.

“HPU is anticipating Reid's leadership to the Sea Warriors basketball program.  Reid has been an important part of the success the ladies have achieved during the last three years, his continuance with the program will provide important stability as HPU basketball continues to compete for the PacWest Championship,” said Athletics Director Darren Vorderbruegge.

Originally from Kaneohe, Hawai'i, Takatsuka graduated from Hawai'i Baptist Academy in Honolulu where he was a three-sport athlete, lettering in basketball, volleyball and golf. He graduated from college at California Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies.

Before joining the Sea Warriors, he coached nine seasons at Hawai'i Baptist, the last seven as the Head Girls Varsity Coach. He now works as a full-time sales manager, as well as a part-time teacher with the Hawai'i Department of Education. He is married to Claudine, and has two sons, Kellen (12) and M.J. (8), and one daughter, Rena (10).
