Honolulu, HI (September 9, 2011) – In the opener of the Hawai'i Challenge Cup, Hawai'i Pacific defeated Chaminade 4-0 at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex. The win puts HPU over the .500 mark at 2-1.
The first half was close; HPU had nine shots to Chaminade's four and also led the battle of corner kicks 6-4. Of the nine shots,
Keenan Ho's was the only one to go in. The unassisted goal at the 14:18 mark was Ho's first of the season.
The second half solely belonged to HPU. The Sea Warriors added a goal at the 60:26 mark when Preseason All-PacWest Team member
Chance Bukoski scored his second goal of the season.
Sebastian Luhr was credited on the assist. Later, HPU scored twice more on goals scored less than three minutes apart. First, Mark Thompson scored his first goal of the year at 81:03. Then at 83:57,
Kanoa Nartatez fed
Alan Albertazzi for his first score of the season. In the second half HPU outshot Chaminade 15-2 and had two corner kicks to Chaminade's zero.
Mael Lefebvre had three saves in goal for HPU.
HPU hosts UH-Hilo at Atherton Field tomorrow as a part of the Hawai'i Challenge Cup. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
