Men’s Soccer Turns Away Hilo

Honolulu, HI (September 10, 2011) – The Hawai'i Pacific men's soccer team has not been challenged in the Hawai'i Challenge Cup, in the first two games, HPU has outscored the competition 7-0. Today it was a 3-0 win over UH-Hilo. HPU will go for the Hawai'i Challenge Cup sweep against BYU-H on October 21st.

HPU took a 1-0 lead into the half, thanks to a goal by George Fochive at the 16:14 mark. Fochive curved a free kick into the back of the goal. In the second half HPU struck twice more, first it was Linus Ekden from Mael Lefebvre and Keenan Ho at the 63:17 mark. Chance Bukoski scored his third goal of the season, this one, with less than 15 minutes to play, was from point blank range. Mark Thomson got Bukoski in prime position.

HPU outshot UH-Hilo 15-6, and won the corner kick battle 2-0. Lefebvre collected his third shutout while making three saves.

HPU now heads to California to start the PacWest season. Up first is Notre Dame de Namur on September 16th at 4 P.M. PST in Belmont, CA.
