Soccer Teams Dispatch Dominican

Honolulu, HI (September 18, 2011) – The Hawai'i Pacific men's and women's soccer teams both defeated Dominican University in a PacWest soccer doubleheader.  The fans in San Rafael, California saw the men's team win 2-1 while the ladies posted another shutout (1-0).

The men's team needed a comeback effort to notch the win. HPU was down 1-0 when Kolby Mitnick scored four minutes prior to the half. In the second half, Chance Bukoski took over. The senior  scored both of HPU's goals. Now with five goals on the season, Bukoski evened the match when he got a pass from Demetrius Beauchamp in front of the net and beat the keeper. Bukoski provided what proved to be the game winning goal at the 77:34 mark. After a shot deflected off the goal keeper, Bukoski put the rebound back for the score.

HPU outshot Dominican 20-12 for the game. Mael Lefebvre had five saves in goal.

HPU has now won four straight matches and has an overall record of 5-1 and a 2-0 record in the PacWest.

The women's team got a goal from Sanoe Souza, her second of the year, at the 60:46 mark. Souza corralled an errant header and scored. The team's third shutout of the year was a combined defensive effort. HPU only allowed six shots in the match, with only one making it to goal keeper Carianne Makino.

HPU is now 4-1 overall and 4-0 against Division II teams. HPU also remains a perfect 2-0 in the PacWest.

The soccer teams continue their California trip on Tuesday in San Francisco against Academy of Art University. The women start at 12:00 PM PST followed by the men at 3 PM PST.
