Honolulu, HI (September 20, 2011) – The Hawai'i Pacific men's soccer team won its fifth consecutive match on Tuesday, the same day they were ranked fifth in the West Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. On the field, they beat Academy of Art 3-1 in San Francisco.
All-American
Chance Bukoski gave HPU the lead shortly before halftime when he scored his sixth goal of the season. Off a pass from goalie
Mael Lefebvre, Bukoski beat his defender one-on-one, and then lobbed the ball over the goalie's head.
Less than two minutes into the second half, AAU's Frederik Nagel tied the score at one. The teams would be deadlocked until the 76:56 mark.
Heimana Chene put the Sea Warriors back in front when he scored on a header off of
Sam Carmichael's free kick. Chene then put the game away with another goal ten minutes later. This time, Truls Lystad found Chene on a cross and he scored from about 24 yards out.
“The team is playing with confidence. We have still not played our best, but we know how to win. Different players are stepping up every match; this road trip was a total team effort,” said Head Coach
Chris Fisher.
Lefebvre had two saves in the win. HPU is now 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the PacWest. AAU is now 1-5, 0-2.
HPU next hosts UH-Hilo on Saturday at Atherton Field at 3 PM.
