Box Score Honolulu, HI (January 16, 2012) – Hawai'i Pacific's
Fran Urli posted 21 points on 7-12 shooting, but it was not enough as HPU fell to visiting Academy of Art 76-68 Monday at the Neal Blaisdell Center. With the loss HPU falls to 6-7 overall and 1-4 in the PacWest.
HPU fell behind early after a quick 8-2 run to start the game for the Urban Knights. By the 14:35 mark, HPU had tied the game on a three-point hit from
Sean Jones. HPU earned several seven point leads in the first half, including a 31-24 advantage with nearly five minutes left in the half. However, a 6-0 run by Art U made it a one point game at the half, 31-30.
Art U came out of the locker room strong and built a nine point lead at 52-43 with 12:45 to play. Both teams essentially traded baskets down the stretch until a layup by
Kyle Allen made it a four point game with 1:57 to play. However, HPU would be shut out over the final two minutes resulting in the win for Art U.
Kyle Allen pitched in 14 points to go with his game-high eight rebounds.
LaBrent Chappell was the catalyst for the offense in the second half, he finished with nine points and five assists.
Glenn Miller suffered from foul trouble, being disqualified in 20 minutes of action. Still, Miller added five points and eight rebounds.
Art U outshot the Sea Warriors 48% (27-56) to 41% (21-51). However, HPU held the advantage from distance going 5-11 (46%) to 5-15 (33%). HPU got a big boost in the first half, converting 5-8 from three-point range.
HPU now embarks on a road trip to the West Coast and the Southwest, the first game is against California Baptist on January 19th at 7:30 PM PST.
