Box Score Honolulu, HI (January 3, 2012) – The Hawai'i Pacific men's basketball team made big plays down the stretch and pulled out the 64-56 win over UH-Hilo in a PacWest contest. The game was close throughout, featuring 13 ties.
The back and forth matchup saw neither team able to take control, until the final minutes neither team led by more than six points. With the game tied at 50, HPU reeled off an 8-0 run to take charge of the game. With only three minutes left, UHH tried to mount a comeback but HPU was able to seal the game by going 6-8 from the foul strip in the closing minutes.
Three Sea Warriors reached double figures, led by
LaBrent Chappell who scored 16 points.
Glenn Miller scored 14 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had six steals.
Kyle Allen posted 10 points to go with his seven rebounds.
HPU controlled the glass, 33-26, and shot the ball better. HPU went 21-46 (46%) and UHH shot 22-55 (40%). HPU held the advantage at the foul line, going 18-24 (75%) as UHH went 9-13 (70%).
Both teams are now 6-4 overall but HPU is 1-1 in the PacWest as UHH is 0-2.
HPU returns to action on Thursday as they get a rematch with Chaminade at McCabe Gym at 7:30 PM.
