St. George, UT (October 11, 2012) - Sea Warrior keeper
Mael Lefebvre made nine saves, and forward
Heimana Chene fired seven shots, as the Hawai'i Pacific (5-5-1, 5-2-1) men's soccer team battled to a scoreless tie against Dixie State (5-6-2, 4-3-2) in a rain soaked match in St George, Utah.
Both periods in regulation were played evenly both on the field and on the score sheet with HPU enjoying a 6-5 advantage in shots at halftime. The Sea Warriors best chance in regulation came in the second half, in the 81st minute, when
Daniel Haehre sent a shot past the Red Storm keeper but hit the post. At the end of regulation HPU owned the advantage in shots, but only by a margin of one, 13-12.
In overtime, HPU stepped up its game dominating play. HPU held a 5-0 advantage in the second OT alone and had several near misses, three of them glancing off the post. The match would end with HPU taking the shot advantage 20-16 with Chene registering seven and both Porras and Haehre triggering four.
After the match head coach
Chris Fisher commented on the draw. “We are playing well enough to win games, but luck has not been on our side. The second OT alone we hit the post three times and missed an open net. There were moments where Dixie State was dangerous, but overall we had the better opportunities.”
The HPU men have concluded the mainland portion of its road trip. The Sea Warriors return to the pitch on October 17th at Chaminade; game time is scheduled for 10 AM.
