Volleyball Blanks Chaminade

Honolulu, HI (October 19, 2012) - The Hawai'i Pacific volleyball team got 11 kills from Amanda Moriarty and Kasey Thompson as it swept visiting Chaminade University (6-14, 3-9) 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-18). The Sea Warriors have now won three consecutive matches and are 10-7 overall and 4-5 in league play.

The first set was a battle for both teams. The set was tied seven different times including at 23. An kill by Sanoe Recca brought HPU to set point. Kara Wong's serve hit the top on the net, rolled over, and found the floor to give HPU the win. Moments earlier Chaminade had led 22-21. "It was big that we survived their surge in game one," recalled head coach Daryl Kapis

The second set was close early with the 'Swords leading 12-9. HPU then reeled of a 14-5 run to put the Sea Warriors in control. Chaminade fought off set point three times before Moriarty dashed any comeback hopes with a kill.

HPU trailed in the opening moments of set three but cruised to the win. "We blocked well in the end and passed decently too. We did a good job cleaning up our errors from game one," said Kapis.

Thomson hit .357 to lead all competitors. "Kasey had a really good game, she hit well from front and back row," said Kapis.

Pihannakealoha Kea had 33 assists to go with seven digs. Chelsey Buyuan led the team with 15 digs.

The Sea Warriors now leave for their first mainland road trip of the season. The five-game swing beings October 22nd versus Notre Dame de Namur at 7 PM (PST).
