Hilo, HI (October 22, 2012)-
Guillem Vinas Marin scored a goal in the 74th minute, but the score would prove to be too little too late as the Hawai'i Pacific (6-6-2, 6-3-2) men's soccer fell to the University of Hawai'i at Hilo (3-7-2, 3-6-2) by the score of 4-1.
Hilo got on the board early, scoring in the sixth minute when Vulcan midfielder Aaron Sanchez beat Lefebvre to make the score 1-0. The Vulcans would strike again in the 35th minute to push the score to 2-0. The half would end with the Sea Warriors behind in shots 6-4 and behind on the score board 2-0.
In the second half, the Sea Warriors outshot the Vulcans 8-4, but gave up two more goals, the last one on a penalty kick in the 71st minute. Marin would get the Sea Warriors on the board just three minutes later, but the lead would prove to be insurmountable as the Sea Warriors fell to the Vulcans 4-1.
“We came out very flat and had to chase the game. We had a chance to cut the lead in half soon after the break with a penalty kick, but the Hilo goalkeeper made a nice play. Credit to Hilo, they played better than we did today,” said head coach
Chris Fisher.
Hawai'i Pacific returns home to Oahu to take on Bethesda University October 25th at Atherton Field; game time is 12:30 PM.
