San Diego, CA (October 6, 2012) -
Alejandro Porras extended his goal scoring streak to seven games and the Hawai'i Pacific (5-4, 5-1) men's soccer team got back on the winning track defeating Point Loma Nazarene University (2-7, 1-6) by the score of 2-0.
Mael Lefebvre picked up his first shutout of the season, stopping all three shots on goal.
The first half played fairly even as both teams struggled to get shots on goal. Porras opened the scoring in the 21st minute, bending a shot around the Sea Lion wall on a free kick from 20 yards out. HPU took the one goal lead to the half.
HPU nearly gave up the lead in the 54th minute when a handball was called on a Sea Warrior defender in the box. PLNU was awarded a penalty kick as a result, but Lefebvre was able to make a diving stop preserving the 1-0 lead.
The Sea Warriors would add an insurance goal in the 78th minute when Porras found
Kanoa Nartatez who beat the Sea Lion keeper making the score 2-0. HPU would finish the match with a 13-9 advantage in shots and a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
With the California leg of the road trip complete, Hawaii Pacific next heads to Phoenix for a meeting against PacWest archrival Grand Canyon University on October 9th; game time is 5:45 PM.
