Men’s Basketball Drops Argos on Senior Night

Box Score Honolulu, HI (February 17, 2012) – The Hawai'i Pacific men's basketball (9-12, 4-9) team feels comfortable at McKinley High School's gym. There, it won its second consecutive game, this time a 66-57 win over Notre Dame de Namur (9-14, 5-10).

It was also senior night for the Sea Warriors, who end the season with four consecutive road games. Fran Urli played a starring role in his final game at HPU; he scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed six rebounds. Urli again did most of his damage from the foul line, going 10-12. Fellow senior Glenn Miller posted 12 points and five rebounds. Sean Jones also had a double figure night with 13 points on 6-9 shooting. Senior LaBrent Chappell had seven points to go with three assists.

The game was close throughout, but a jumper by Miller gave HPU a seven point lead with 5:34 to play in the first half. The lead would be short lived and HPU found itself trailing three minutes later. HPU regained the lead just before the half; the score at the break was 24-22. NDNU would never again lead, although the game remained tight. The second half featured six ties, but each time HPU answered to regain the lead. NDNU only trailed by three at 60-57 with :33 left, but perfect foul shooting and a transition basket gave the Sea Warriors a nine point win.

HPU will close the season with four road games, starting on Tuesday against Academy of Art in San Francisco. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM PST.
