San Rafael, CA (February 23, 2012) – The Hawai'i Pacific men's basketball team (11-12, 6-9) used a good shooting night to win its fourth consecutive game. HPU beat Dominican University 69-62, with the win, HPU swept the season series.
HPU shot 67% (14-21) from the floor in the first half, leading to 37 first half points. A three-point hit by
Glenn Miller with 8:19 left in the first half gave HPU a 20-18 lead, the Sea Warriors would not again trail. A
Sean Jones jumper gave HPU an 11 point lead at the half. The lead grew to as many as 18 two diffrent times in the second half. Dominican (9-18, 8-8) made a late push and only trailed by five with: 37 left, but Fran Uril hit a pair of free throws to end the Penguins' hopes.
Three Sea Warriors posted double figure scoring nights led by
Glenn Miller who had 19. Fran Uril had 16 points and a team-high six rebounds.
Sean Jones added 12 points off the bench on 5-8 shooting.
LaBrent Chappell and
Kyle Allen each passed out three assists.
HPU scored 23 points (23-29) at the foul line while Dominican just managed eight (8-12). HPU shot 56% (22-39) for the game as opposed to Dominican that shot 43% (26-60). The Sea Warriors also owned a 31-23 advantage on the glass.
HPU closes the Bay Area road trip on Saturday in Belmont, CA against Notre Dame de Namur at 7:30 PM.
