Men’s Basketball Sunk at Buzzer

Belmont, CA (February 25, 2012) – With one second left on the clock, Notre Dame de Namur's Tyler Fricke hit a fadeaway three pointer  to beat Hawai'i Pacific, 60-57. The loss marks the fourth time this season that HPU has lost by five or less points.

HPU (11-13, 6-10) battled with the Argos (11-14, 7-10) in the first half with neither team able to build a double figure lead. HPU led by nine with 14:54 left in the opening half, but the lead changed hands several more times before the game was knotted at 29 at halftime. The second half saw NDNU take an early lead and not relinquish it. HPU would tie the game three more times in the second half, including with :29 left after LaBrent Chappell hit a jumper.

Chappell led the team with 23 points, including a 4-8 performance from three-point land. Kyle Allen turned in an all-around effort with nine points, four rebounds and five assists. Sean Jones led the team with five rebounds.

HPU was perfect from the foul line going 14-14 as NDNU hit just 4-10. The Sea Warriors were also efficient from long range, hitting 5-13 (39%). HPU also won the battle of the boards, 32-26.

HPU returns to Hawai'i for its final two games of the season, starting with a trip to UH-Hilo on March 1st at 7:30 PM.
