Manoa, HI (March 16, 2012) – After a long, grueling road trip the Hawai'i Pacific women's tennis team got some home cooking and upended Division I Illinois State University 6-1. The Sea Warriors looked strong; the only blemish was a three set loss in a tiebreaker, long after the issue was settled.

HPU took two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Under Division II rules each doubles match counts as a point, but according to Division I rules only one doubles point is given out. HPU got an 8-3 win from the pair of Ielyzaveta Rybakova and Celina Goetti at second doubles. Lea Kruse-Utermann and Zora Vlckova took third doubles by an 8-4 count.

Rybakova was overpowering in singles play as she breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 win. Magdalena Smejova was almost equally as good with a 6-1, 6-2 win. Vlckova picked up another win at first singles, this time a 6-4, 6-3 win over Aniko Kiss. Carrie Shuler and Vivian Hansen both needed tiebreakers to prevail.

HPU will play Chaminade on Friday at Central Oahu Regional Park at 10 AM. Technically, this is a road match.
