Burnaby, BC (September 9, 2012) - The Hawai'i Pacific (0-3) men's soccer team dropped the last match of its road trip to the seventh ranked team in the nation, Simon Frasier University (3-0), by the score of 3-2.
Heimana Chene and
Daniel Haehre each picked up goals for the Sea Warriors, while
Mael Lefebvre made nine save in net.
HPU forward Chene scored the first goal of the match in the 17th minute off of a free kick. The Clan would answer in the 35th minute when John Hodnett scored on a rebound after HPU keeper Lefebvre made the initial save. The game would remain tied going in to the half despite SFU enjoying a 13 to four advantage in shots in the period.
SFU would keep the heat on in the second period taking a 2-1 lead off a goal by Carlo Basso in the 61st minute. The Sea Warriors would answer in the 72nd minute when Haehre tied the game up beating the SFU keeper from the six yard line,
Alejandro Porras picked up the assist. The tie would not last long however as Clan forward Lucas Ferritto beat Lefebrve in the 75th minute for the game winner. The match would end with SFU holding the edge in shots, taking a total of 27 versus HPU's six.
Hawai'i Pacific returns to action against the University of Hawaii at Hilo, kicking off PacWest play on September 15th at Atherton Field. Game time is scheduled for 12:30 PM.
