Honolulu, HI (September 22, 2012) - The Hawai'i Pacific volleyball team (7-3, 1-1) lost 3-2 (21-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-22, 15-11) to visiting Dixie State College (3-6, 1-3) at St. Andrew's Priory. The Sea Warriors were paced by
Samantha Rummans who had 13 kills.
The Sea Warriors looked to be in control in the first set, HPU led 17-14 on a kill by
Elizabeth Culpepper. However, HPU helped the Red Storm with five hitting errors down the stretch losing 21-25. HPU jumped out to a quick lead in the second set taking an 8-4 lead after a Rummans kill. Dixie State would fight its way back, tying the set at nine, and would not look back after that to take a two set advantage. HPU battled back in the third and fourth sets, coasting to a 25-19 victory in the third and earning a hard fought 25-22 victory in the fourth set. HPU fell behind 4-7, early in the fifth and deciding set but closed the gap to 9-10 after a
Kasey Thompson kill. Despite four kills from Rummans in the final set, HPU would drop the set 11-15.
Culpepper was big for the Sea Warriors with 12 kills and a .350 hitting percentage. Kea passed out 36 assists and led the team with 21 digs. Chelsea Buyuan and
Sanoe Recca each also had double figure dig nights as well.
HPU is back in action September 25th against 13th ranked Grand Canyon University at 7 PM at St. Andrew's Priory.
