San Francisco, CA (January 21, 2012) – The Hawai'i Pacific men's basketball team (6-8, 3-4) suffered an 86-56 setback on the road against Academy of Art (5-9, 3-4).
Farbod Farman had his second consecutive big game with a team-high 16 points.
The Sea Warriors fell behind 5-0 but bounced back to take a 12-10 lead six minutes into the game on three-point hit by
Malte Ziegenhagen. However, Art U went on a 17-0 run to lead 27-12 with 9:45 left in the first half.
Marko Cukic connected on a jumper with two seconds left in the half to cut the lead to 12 at 43-31.
At the 18:13 mark of the second half the Sea Warriors were again down 12 at 46-34, but Art U would blow it open with a 15-4 run over the next five minutes. The Urban Knights finished off the second half for the win to split the season series.
Marko Cukic went 6-8 from the floor on his way to 14 points.
Kawika Lyons scored 11 points including 3-6 from three-point range. Ziegenhagen added nine points.
Cold shooting hampered the Sea Warriors; HPU went 20-48 (41.7%) from the floor and 5-18 (27.8 %) from deep.
HPU will head to San Rafael to play Dominican University on Wednesday at 7:30 PM.
