Honolulu, HI (July 11, 2013) – The Pacific West Conference has released its All-Academic Team for 2012-2013 and Hawai'i Pacific ranks fourth in the 14 team league with 127 student-athletes on the team.
The baseball team had the most representation with 23 selections, led by Doug Christie who had a 3.93 GPA. Women's soccer was next with 16 representatives, followed by softball with 14 members on the team.
Women's golf was perfect with all six members making the all-academic team. Zora Vlckova and Kailee Kuehn were almost perfect with a 3.96 GPA and a 3.92 GPA. Women's tennis just missed with 6 of its 7 members making the cut. Celina Goetti, also a Capital One Academic All-American, had a 3.95 GPA.
Overall, 1,600 PacWest student-athletes made the team. Each student needed to have a 3.0 or better GPA for the year.
PacWest wide, for the fourth consecutive year, women's soccer posted the most recipients with 238 Academic All-Conference Team members – a jump of 65 over last season. Men's soccer finished runner-up for the third consecutive year with 189 (an increase of 35), while baseball finished third with 152 - a leap of 65 student-athletes over last year and 99 from two years ago.
The PacWest now will choose a Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each of its 15 sports. Institutions have been presented with an opportunity to nominate one student-athlete from each of its athletic programs.
