Men’s Soccer Back on Right Track

Box Score BELLINGHAM, WA (September 14, 2013) - Two days after narrowly dropping a game to the second ranked team in the nation, the Hawai'i Pacific Men's Soccer Team  (2-1-1) rebounded earning a big 1-0 road win against Western Washington (2-2) in foggy Bellingham.

The lone goal came in the 26th minute when Jimmy Baggett picked up a loose ball near midfield. He played it along to Felipe Silva, who one touched it over to Brais Garcia, who then finished from 15 yards. The goal was Garcia's second on the year.

The HPU back line was strong, holding the Vikings without a shot on goal for the majority of the match. In fact, WWU would not force HPU keeper Mael Lefebvre to make a save until the 84th minute, when the Frenchman made a brilliant diving stop off of a Viking header to protect the lead.

After the game Head Coach Chris Fisher commented on his team's 1-0 win, "We did not play our best game, but we came together as a team and did what we needed to to get the win. Olivier (Rolland) and Kamali (Webson) did well to contain their best player and Mael was calm and solid in goal to get the shutout."

The Sea Warriors will now return to Oahu for a non-conference game against BYU-Hawaii on September 21st at Atherton Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
