Volleyball Responds with W

Box Score SONOMA, CA (September 14, 2013) – The Hawai'i Pacific Volleyball Team (6-2) responded to a poor performance earlier in the day with a dominant 3-0 win over Chico State (25-16, 25-22, 25-20)  to close out the Seawolf Spike Tournament.

It is the second time in as many weeks that HPU has topped Chico State (3-4), and it couldn't have come at a better time as HPU had to get a win to split the difficult road trip to Sonoma.

"While we could have done better in the tournament, it was really important to win the bookend games of the weekend. We had to work hard for every single point and for that I am very proud of our team," said HPU Head Coach Daryl Kapis.

Freshman Pomai Recca earned the first award of her collegiate career, a spot on the Seawolf Spike All-Tournament Team.

Recca led the way with another double-double (13 kills, 13 digs). Samantha Rummans added 10 kills.

Hannah Schuett had a game-high 18 assists as Marie Fujii had 16.

Libero Chelsey Buyuan had more than twice as many digs as any other player in the game with 27.

HPU returns to St. Andrew's Priory on Spetmeber 20th at 7:00 p.m. to host the undefended Vulcans of UH Hilo in the PacWest Conference opener.
