Box Score HONOLULU, HI (January 11, 2014)— The Hawai`i Pacific Men's Basketball Team fell to Chaminade 83-82 at Moanalua High School Saturday night. The Sea Warriors fall to 10-3 overall and 5-2 in PacWest play while the Silverswords improve to 8-6 and 5-1 in conference.
Chaminade jumped out to an early 10 point lead in the first seven minutes of play. HPU chipped away at the lead pulling to within two on four occasions before the 'Swords would answer with a run. HPU would finally take its first lead since 7-6 on a
Darry Jones Jr. drive and layup with 2:16 remaining in the half. Chaminade closed with a 6-3 run however and took a 47-44 lead to the locker room.
Jones Jr. answered to call early for the Sea Warriors in the second half, knocking down a three-pointer just 20 seconds in. HPU stretched its lead out to seven after a
Rema Lascelles bucket and foul shot with 12:50 to play. Chaminade used a 7-0 run to tie the game for the fifth time at 74 with 5:55 play.
The two sides exchanged baskets over the final five minutes and it was Chaminade who held a one-point lead with four seconds remaining. HPU inbounded the ball on a half-court pass and immediately called time out to have the ball at midcourt. The Sea Warriors drew up a play to get the ball to
Justin Long, but the shot wouldn't fall as Silverswords prevailed.
Jones Jr. had a solid night for HPU registering 21 points and three assists.
Farbod Farman closed a solid week with another strong performance with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Long finished with 13 points as
Malte Ziegenhagen added 12 points.
HPU now hits the road to California for a four-game swing, beginning with Dominican University in San Rafael on January 18th.
