Box Score SAN RAFAEL, CA (January 18, 2014)—The Hawai`i Pacific Men's Basketball Team (11-3, 6-2) picked up its first PacWest road victory of the season defeating Dominican (11-7, 5-5) 69-67 Saturday night.
The Sea Warriors found themselves trailing 12-8 before a
Rema Lascelles three-pointer kick started a 13-0  run in which the Penguins would not score a single point for over seven minutes and only one field goal over a 10 minute span.
Darry Jones Jr. drove to the bucket for a layup to close out the scoring for the first half and the Sea Warriors took a 30-23 lead to the break.
HPU quickly extended its lead to 16 points after a 12-3 run to start the second half. Jones Jr. made it a 17-point lead with 8:11 to play on a three-pointer, but the Pens rallied to go on a 20-6 run and only trailed by three points with 45 seconds to play.
Mental toughness in closing out games in the final seconds has been a staple for the Sea Warriors all season and that toughness paid off waning seconds against the Penguins.
HPU knocked down all but one of its last eight free throws over the final 25 seconds. DU hit a three-pointer at the buzzer, but the HPU free throw shooting had given it a big enough advantage to pick up the two-point victory on the road.
Jones Jr. led the way offensively for the Sea Warriors with 18 points while
Farbod Farman was close behind with 17 points, three blocks and a team-high six rebounds.
Malte Ziegenhagen was the last Sea Warrior in double-figures with 11 points in 37 minutes of work.
The Sea Warriors next head to Belmont, Ca to face Notre Dame de Namur on Monday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PST.
