Men’s Basketball Drops Road Game at NDNU

Box Score BELMONT, CA (January 20, 2014)—The Hawai'i Pacific Men's Basketball Team (11-4, 6-3) dropped game two of its mainland road trip 71-66 to Notre Dame de Namur (5-11, 4-6) on Monday night.

Things looked good for the Sea Warriors early as they scored the first eight points of the game. NDNU rallied to pull within one, but a 7-0 run to close the half gave HPU a 10-point advantage at the break.

The Sea Warriors stretched their lead out to 13 early in the second half off a driving bucket by Darry Jones Jr. , but the Argos began to chip away.

NDNU took its first lead of the ballgame with 4:45 to play, but HPU junior Malte Ziegenhagen answered with a three-pointer on the next possession to retake the lead. The two sides exchanged buckets before Jones Jr.  drove the lane again to give HPU a one-point lead with two minutes left on the clock.

The Argonauts answered with a layup of their own to regain the lead and hit all six of their free throws down the stretch to ice the game and complete the comeback.

HPU center Farbod Farman led the Sea Warriors with 16 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Jones Jr. ended up with 15 points and Ziegenhagen had 14 of his own before fouling out in the waning seconds.

The road trip continues when the Sea Warriors face Fresno Pacific on January 23rd. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m PST.
