Box Score FRESNO, CA (October 3, 2014) – The Hawai'i Pacific Volleyball Team (4-7, 2-3) lost a Pacific West Conference match against Fresno Pacific (8-6, 2-3) on the road in four sets (15-25, 25-14, 27-25, 25-22).
The first two sets were polar opposites. HPU rocked the home team in the first set winning 25-15. Leading 11-10, the Sharks caught fire and went on a 10-1 run to lead 21-11 and ice the first set. However, the tables were turned in the second set as Sunbirds could do no wrong, resulting in a 25-14 loss.
The third set saw HPU claim an early 8-3 lead but it wouldn't last. This set would be the closest of the night with eight ties and two lead changes. A pair of
Kasey Thompson kills tied the set at 23, and then after an FPU point
Elizabeth Culpepper tied it at 24 with a kill. Unfortunately for HPU fans two of the next three points, and the set, went to Fresno Pacific.
The fourth set was all Sunbirds until late. Down 22-15, the Sharks dug in and rallied to make the set interesting. Â Two
Pomai Recca kills and several errors by FPU brought HPU to within on one at 23-22 but the rally stalled.
Culpepper led HPU with 13 kills as
Amanda Moriarty led with 22 digs and
Tenika Wentworth posted 27 assists.
The road trip continues on October 5th at Notre Dame de Namur.
