Box Score HILO, HI (November 8, 2014) – The Hawai'i Pacific Men's Soccer Team (8-9-1, 6-6) lost its last game of the season 2-0 against University of Hawai'i Hilo (7-9-2, 5-6-1) on Saturday afternoon on the Big Island.
Both teams started careful in the first period of the game. However, it was the Vulcans who had the first shot (5') of the game with a good header that was saved by keeper
Jesse Kunitomo.
Both teams played physically aggressive, resulting in three yellow cards within just the first 15 minutes.
Twenty-three minutes into the game, Hilo's Mike Reckmeyer grabbed the lead for the Vulcans.
Despite trying hard to tie the game, the Sharks were not able to find to their game and overcome the Vulcans' solid defense.
In the 40th minute, the Vulcans struck again, making it 2-0.
After the changeover, the Sharks were able to create more chances. Sixty-three minutes in the game,
Erik Kemsies fired a good shot on the goal that was saved by the Hilo keeper.
Following, HPU battled but was not able to take control over the game. With just seconds left in the game,
Nahoa Salera got off a powerful shot but it was blocked again by Hilo's defense.
Hilo led the statistics in shots (8-2) and shots on goal (5-1). Kunitomo finished with two saves.
Eduardo Palacios, who played second half, finished with one save. The physical hard play resulted in five yellow cards (Hilo 3-2).
The season finale in Hilo was also the last collegiate soccer game for seniors
