Box Score ST. GEORGE, UT (November 8, 2014) – The Hawai'i Pacific Volleyball Team (14-10, 12-6) lost its last mainland match of the season on Saturday to host Dixie State (18-8, 15-3) in four sets (25-14, 25-20, 23-25, 25-19).
The Red Storm came out hot to start the match, HPU trailed 4-1 and then 13-5 before eventually dropping the first set.
The Sharks responded with a 7-0 run early in the second set to lead 7-2. HPU held the lead until late, when with the score 20-18, DSUÂ returned the favor and ripped off the next seven points to win.
HPU battled back in the third set, the Sharks broke a 5-5 tie early in the set and never trailed again. Dixie State fought off two sets points, but in the end HPU to was too much.
The fourth set was close throughout; HPU tied the match at 16 but was only able to manage three more scores the rest of the night.
Poor passing in serve receive led to just a .104 hitting percentage for HPU as opposed to .271 for the home team.
Kasey Thompson led the team with 13 kills;
Pomai Recca contributed 11 (and 15 digs).
Marie Fujii was the primary setter with 32 assists to go with her 11 digs.
Amanda Moriarty helped the effort with 14 digs.
HPU will return to Oahu to play at BYU-Hawaii on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
