Farman Nearly Triple-Doubles on Senior Night, Men’s Basketball Prevails

Box Score HONOLULU, HI (February 24, 2014)—The Hawai`i Pacific Men's Basketball Team (14-11, 9-10) picked up its second win in three days, this time defeating Fresno Pacific (11-15, 6-12) by the score of 80-69.

The first play of the game would foreshadow the theme of the night as Darry Jones Jr. found an open Farbod Farman who threw down a monster dunk just 14 seconds in.

The first half was a battle with four ties and numerous lead changes, but it was the Sunbirds who took momentum and a six-point lead to the locker room after a steal and layup as time expired on the first half.

The Sunbirds remained hot in the second half building their lead to 13 points just five minutes into the second frame. HPU successfully kept pounding the ball inside to the 6'11 Farman who held a five inch height advantage over the tallest Sunbird defender.

With the inside game going, HPU's shooters took over down the stretch and the Sea Warriors took a two-point lead with 6:03 to play on a Colfax Nordquist three-pointer. Justin Long answered with a three-pointer of his own on the next possession and the Sea Warriors began to pull away, eventually winning by 11 points, 80-69.

Farman had a tremendous game narrowly missing a triple-double with 20 points, 12 rebounds and a career-high eight blocks. Long chipped in 19 points in 36 minutes while Nordquist had his best game as a Sea Warrior with 12 points, six assists and helped shut down FPU star Malcolm Griffin down the stretch defensively.

HPU said Aloha to Farman and fellow senior Leif Rodney who played their final games in front of a home crowd.

The Sea Warriors final regular season game will be March 1st against UH Hilo in Hilo. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
