SAN DIEGO, CA (March 5, 2014) – For the second consecutive year, Hawai'i Pacific is the only school from Hawai'i to send both the men's and women's basketball teams to the PacWest Championships. With just the top six schools invited, HPU is in prime position to earn the coveted automatic qualifier to the NCAA playoffs.
Men's Basketball vs. Dixie State (3/6/14 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time)
The sixth-seeded Sea Warriors will face the third-seeded Red Storm in the opening game of the tournament. While Dixie State enters action with the higher seed, based on its 15-5 league record, it was HPU that was victorious in the previous meeting. On January 6th, HPU thumped the Red Storm 96-77 in Honolulu, knocking them from their undefeated perch. All five Sea Warrior starters scored in double-figures, paced by
Justin Long's 26 points. Center
Farbod Farman had his way down low with 17 points, 16 rebounds, and six blocks.
If HPU prevails, Dominican is waiting in the second round. HPU beat the Penguins in California earlier this season.
