Box Score HILO, HAWAII (October 1, 2015)—In what turned out to be its second consecutive come-from-behind victory in conference action, the Hawaii Pacific women's volleyball team rallied to remain undefeated in PacWest Conference play as the Sharks defeated the University of Hawaii-Hilo 15-25, 25-21, 25-14, 25-21 in the Vulcans' gym.
The Sharks (10-3, 5-0 PacWest) extended their winning streak to eight matches thanks in part to a stellar effort from senior
Elizabeth Culpepper who collected a match-high 18 kills after hitting a blistering .326 and also notched 4 total blocks. Setter
Tenika Wentworth posted a match-best 39 assists and a service ace.
"This was a big win for our program," said HPU coach
Daryl Kapis. "To win on the road in an absolutely packed house was huge. We struggled tremendously in Game 1 as we played not to lose, then we played at a level we know we can the rest of the way."
Junior outside hitter
Pomai Recca chipped in 17 kills to go along with 13 digs. Senior defensive specialist
Amanda Moriarty also turned in another stellar performance and led all players with 22 digs.
The Vulcans (4-3, 2-2) received 14 kills and 5 digs from Morgan Lees, who also had 5 total blocks.
"We know now that everyone is gunning for us and we look forward to the challenge of being on the road starting next Monday in San Diego," Kapis said.
HPU continues its road swing with a four-match PacWest trip through California and Utah. The Sharks return home on Oct. 16 to face Notre Dame De Namur University.
