Box Score WAIPIO, HAWAII (October 19, 2015)—The Hawaii Pacific men's soccer team employed an organized defensive front and relied on its early display of offensive firepower en route to securing a 3-1 victory over Dominican University of California in a PacWest Conference contest at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park Field 5.
The Sharks (7-4-1, 5-2-1 PacWest) jumped out to a 1-0 lead after
Javier Risco Garcia scored in the 15
th minute following pinball-like passes from
Erik Kemsies and
Jackson Groves. Kemsies then assisted on
Josch Cuerten's goal in the 33
rd minute and
Sven Koenig added a nifty score in the 61
st minute when, following a precise pass from
Ryo Sugihara, the freshman from Germany eluded the charging goalkeeper to convert the goal.
The Penguins (1-12, 1-7) received their lone goal in the 83
rd minute as Cory Vanderpool converted a penalty kick following a blatant Sharks foul in the box. Dominican had a tough time breaking through HPU's defensive front, and was out-shot 15-5.
HPU returns to action with a home contest at Atherton Field as the Sharks face Holy Names University on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 3 p.m.
