Sea Lions Sweep Sharks on Volleyball Court

Box Score SAN DIEGO, CALIF. (October 5, 2015)—The Hawaii Pacific women's volleyball team dropped a match for the first time in PacWest Conference play as the Sharks fell to Point Loma Nazarene University 25-21, 25-17, 25-18 in the Sea Lions' gym.
 
The Sharks (10-4, 5-1 PacWest) had their eight-match winning streak and undefeated run in conference action end despite receiving 17 kills and 7 digs from junior outside hitter Pomai Recca. Setter Tenika Wentworth posted 29 assists and nine digs, while senior defensive specialist Amanda Moriarty turned in an admirable performance and led all players with 18 digs.
 
PLNU (8-6, 3-3) turned in a stellar offensive performance and finished the match with a .336 hitting percentage. Heather Leavitt led the Sea Lions with 17 kills, while Savannah Wedemeyer collected 44 assists and 14 digs.

"Point Loma played great, hats off to them," said HPU coach Daryl Kapis. "I thought we played a good game, we just ran into a team that played a great game. Our focus now is on our next opponent, Azusa Pacific."

HPU continues its road swing that includes a four-match PacWest trip through California and Utah. The Sharks return home on Oct. 16 to face Notre Dame De Namur University.
