Box Score HONOLULU (November 21, 2015)—The Hawaii Pacific women's volleyball team could not put together the necessary crunch-time rally and dropped its season finale to visiting Chaminade 25-14, 20-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-13 in a thrilling PacWest Conference matchup at Saint Andrew's Priory.
The Silverswords also defeated HPU in five sets earlier in the campaign and finished off the season sweep.
The Sharks (15-13, 10-10 PacWest) received a match-high 19 kills from senior
Elizabeth Culpepper, while Kamehameha product
Pomai Recca posted 11 kills. Setter
Tenika Wentworth notched 39 assists and senior defensive specialist
Amanda Moriarty added 20 digs in her final match.
"Win or lose, that is the way you want to finish your season or career: in a battle with a league rival that goes to teh fifth and deciding set," said HPU coach
Daryl Kapis. "I'm very happy for all the seniors. They have given so much of themselves to the program. Five seniors playing all four years is a testament to our program and I thank them for the legacy they have left."
The Silverswords (19-9, 12-8) were led by Keani Passi's 17 kills. Chaminade ran away with the first set after posting a blistering .529 hitting percentage and claimed the last two frames to complete the come-from-behind win.
After the match, the Sharks ohana bid farewell to five departing seniors:
Kasey Thompson, Culpepper,
Kara Wong,
Sophia Blaszyk and Moriarty.
