Box Score SEATTLE (September 11, 2015)—The Hawaii Pacific women's volleyball team notched its third victory of the 2015 campaign, all of which have come via sweep, with a 25-17, 25-20, 25-19 triumph over Alaska Fairbanks in the second round of the three-day Great Northwest Athletic Conference/PacWest Crossover Tournament at Seattle Pacific University's Brougham Pavilion.
The Sharks (3-3) received a match-high 14 kills from senior outside hitter
Elizabeth Culpepper who also posted 10 digs and two service aces. Junior outside hitter
Pomai Recca added 10 kills and an ace, while sophomore setter
Tenika Wentworth racked up a match-leading 31 assists and also accumulated 11 digs in the contest.
HPU posted a .224 hitting percentage and was buoyed by stellar swing performances from sophomore middle blocker
Lea Felton (8 kills, .368 hitting) and senior right-side hitter
Kasey Thompson (5 kills, .625 hitting).
"It was nice to get on the right side of the win column," said HPU coach
Daryl Kapis. "Everyone had a chance to contribute, which is always a plus. I know we were tired, but we got it going and I'm proud of how we responded" following Thursday's five-set match against Simon Fraser that lasted nearly three hours.
The Nanooks (0-6) received 11 kills from Sam Harthum, while Meagan Olsen posted 18 digs.
HPU plays another match on Friday against Montana State Billings (3 p.m. Hawaii time) as part of the tourney. The Sharks face host Seattle Pacific on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Hawaii time.
