Box Score HONOLULU (September 26, 2015)—It took a come-from-behind effort, but the Hawaii Pacific women's volleyball team rallied to remain undefeated in PacWest Conference play as the Sharks defeated Dominican (Calif.) University 25-15, 21-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-8 at St. Andrew's Priory.
The Sharks (9-3, 4-0 PacWest) extended their winning streak to seven matches thanks in part to a stellar effort from senior
Kasey Thompson, who racked up 14 kills coming on a blistering .522 hitting percentage. Fellow senior
Elizabeth Culpepper also notched 14 kills, while setter
Tenika Wentworth posted a match-high 52 assists and 16 digs. Junior outside hitter
Pomai Recca chipped in 13 kills in addition to 14 digs.
"We weren't sharp tonight and, in combination with playing the best defensive team in the conference, that wasn't a good combination," said HPU coach
Daryl Kapis. "We learned a lot tonight about what we need to do to be ready for the road, and we hope to improve as we prepare for our next game against Hilo."
The Penguins (3-7, 0-4 PacWest), who had eight players available for the match, received a match-high 17 kills from Aimee Steinwand.
HPU hits to the road for an away match with UH Hilo on Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. before embarking on a five-day, four-match PacWest trip through California and Utah. The Sharks return home on Oct. 16 to face Notre Dame De Namur University.
