Volleyball Falls to Humboldt State

Box Score LAIE, HAWAII (September 3, 2015)—The Hawaii Pacific women's volleyball team dropped its season opener to Humboldt State, 25-23, 18-25, 25-14, 25-15, as part of the Hawaii Invitational at the Cannon Activities Center.

The Sharks (0-1) were led by senior right-side hitter Kasey Thompson (11 kills), while Pomai Recca and Elizabeth Culpepper added 10 and 9 kills. HPU sophomore setter Tenika Wentworth added a match-high 28 assists while freshman middle blocker Carson Pyle racked up five blocks.

The Lumberjacks (1-0) received a match-high 16 kills from Kaitlyn Dunaway, while teammates Symone Hayden and Nicole Bewley added 15 and 13 kills. Alex Hasenstab notched 6 blocks for the 'Jacks.

"We weren't as disciplined as we need to be against a really good team," said HPU coach Daryl Kapis. "Those who came off the bench did a lot of positive things. I'm happy for that. We showed offensively we have all the pieces, but just need to work on some things."

HPU will make the drive to St. Andrew's Priory to face Sonoma State at 7 p.m.
