Elizabeth Culpepper led the way with 11 kills as the Hawaii Pacific women's volleyball team swept No. 12 Sonoma State, 30-28, 25-14, 25-17, as part of the Hawaii Invitational at St. Andrew's Priory's James C. Castle Gym.
The Sharks (1-1) hit .312 on the evening and also received 9 kills from former Kamehameha standout
Pomai Recca.
Amanda Moriarty led HPU with 12 digs, while setter
Tenika Wentworth posted 20 assists.
The Seawolves (0-1) received a match-high 13 kills from Caylie Seitz and 16 assists from Courtney Seda.
"It was nice coming back after a tough loss, and coming back to win at home against a top-ranked team," said Sharks skipper
Daryl Kapis. "Our serve receiving was much better this game as compared to the same quality before."
HPU returns to St. Andrew's Priory on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. to face Saint Martin's (Wash.) University and again at 7 p.m. to challenge Simon Fraser (B.C.) University.
