BELMONT, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University won its third straight on Thursday with a 2-0 PacWest Conference victory over Notre Dame de Namur at Koret Field.
The Sharks (6-6-4, 6-4-2) posted their second straight shutout, while Argonauts (8-9-0, 6-6-0) lost their second straight contest.
HPU collected both goals in the second half, outshooting NDNU 14-11 with both teams recording five shots on goal.
Senior
Javier Risco Garcia of Madrid, Spain put the Sharks on the scoreboard in the 60th minute, scoring his third goal of the season with a header off the pass of
Sven Koenig. Koenig, the sophomore from Schuerte, Germany, crossed the ball from the right side to the back post where Risco Garcia headed it in for the 1-0 lead.
The Sharks added the insurance goal in the 83rd minute on a breakaway goal following an Argo shot attempt. Junior
Divin Fula Luzolo of LeMans, France played the ball from the goal line with a pass to junior forward
Josch Cuerten of Cologne, Germany on the right wing. Cuerten cut inside and lifted a shot over NDNU goalkeeper Alex Clewis to make it 2-0.
HPU senior goalkeeper
Jesse Kunitomo of Mililani, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama, recorded his third solo shutout of the season to go with a shared shutout. Kunitomo had five saves on the Argo shots on goal.
NDNU's Clewis recorded three saves against the Sharks, while allowing both goals.
HPU closes out the 2016 campaign on Saturday when they visit Fresno Pacific. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. HST (5 p.m. PDT) at Ramierez Field.
