HPU Men Fall in Double Overtime 1-0 at Biola

LA MIRADA, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University's men's soccer team battled Biola into two overtimes before a corner kick goal in the 103rd minute gave the Eagles a 1-0 PacWest Conference victory Wednesday at Al Barbour Field.

The Sharks (4-5-2, 2-4-1) played their fifth overtime contest in 11 matches this season, while the PacWest newcomer Eagles (5-5-1, 4-2) collected the win.

The game was a scoreless draw until the second extra period when the Eagles drew a corner kick in the 103rd minute. Kousei Mattox sent a perfect ball into the box where Jake Munivez headed it into the right side of the net for his first goal of the season.

Before the goal, the Sharks held the momentum.

HPU had outshot Biola 13-10, with five shots on goal to just one before the game winner.

HPU senior goalkeeper Daniel Arnoll recorded the one save before the header went in on the 11 total BU shots.

The Eagles goalkeeper, Igor Puglia, got the shutout win recording five saves on the Sharks 13 shots.

HPU junior midfielder Gerrit Arzberger of Munich, Germany, saw three of his four shots saved by Puglia including the last HPU attempt in the first overtime that kept Biola in the match.

The Sharks must quickly put the loss behind them as they continue their California road trip with the second game of the swing when they visit Azusa Pacific on Saturday in a 4:30 p.m. HST (7:30 PDT) contest.
