WAIPAHU, Hawai'i – Notre Dame de Namur's Ellie Mujushi's goal in the 103rd minute put the Argos past Hawai'i Pacific University 2-1 in double overtime Saturday afternoon in PacWest Conference action at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.
The Sharks (6-8-1, 2-7-1) dropped their fifth straight contest, as the Argos (7-6-2, 4-4-2) picked up their first win in five matches.
Mujushi recovered a bouncing ball near the top of the box, took it to her left, then chipped it over HPU goal keeper
Lauren Spencer who was coming out to take the loose ball. The ball hopped into the net for a 2-1 NDNU victory.
Spencer, a junior from Oxford, Mich./Oxford, had five saves on 13 shots by Notre Dame de Namur. HPU recorded 18 shots against Argo keeper Abigail Cebrero who also recorded five saves.
Until the game winner, all of the scoring had been in the first half.
NDNU got its first goal of the contest in the 23rd minute following a yellow card foul by the Sharks in the penalty area. Vanessa Sanchez stepped up and powered the penalty kick past Spencer for the 1-0 lead.
The Sharks came back to tie it up in the 42nd minute as sophomore
Ebony Madrid of Porterville, Calif./Ramstein, recovered a broken up pass on the right side and drilled it off the left goal post. The ball spun into the goal on the ricochet to even the contest at 1-1.
The game remained even through the second half and first overtime as HPU had 12 shots with three on goal, while limiting the Argos to no shot attempts in the 45 minute second half and two in the first overtime. Only one of those shots were on goal for NDNU.
NDNU posted the only two shots of the second overtime, including the Mujushi's game-winner. It was her 11th goal of the season.
The Sharks now prepare for their second to last home game of the season when they take on Dominican (Calif.) next Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.
