Sharks Drop 3-0 Decision to Notre Dame de Namur

HONOLULU – Hawai'i Pacific University fell in a 3-0 sweep to Notre Dame de Namur Sunday evening in PacWest Conference action at St. Andrew's Priory's James C. Castle Gymnasium Sunday evening.
 
The Sharks (7-15, 5-9) lost the three sets to the Argos (13-10, 8-7) 20-25, 15-25, and 18-25.
 
"We just need to follow through on our strong starts, and come together as a team," said Coach Jenic Tumaneng. "We've still got a lot of volleyball to play this season."
 
The Sharks hit .190 for the match with 32 kills on the night. The Argos hit .324 with 43 total kills in the sweep.
 
HPU freshman Camryn Collie of El Dorado Hills, Calif./Oak Ridge fulfilled tallied an outstanding 16 kills and .438 hitting percentage, and junior Carson Pyle of Houston, Texas/Memorial played solid defense for the Sharks with two solo blocks on the night.
 
The Sharks played close during the first set, bringing the game to twelve ties with seven lead changes. The Sharks got a quick lead with a 4-0 run as the Argos suffered two setting errors followed by two attacking errors giving the Sharks an 8-4 advantage. NDNU answered back with their own five-point swing when Taylor Garcia came to serve with two aces. The Argos held a 20-18 lead when a 3-0 run allowed NDNU to trade points and win the set 25-20 on a push attack by Emma Kleven.
 
The second set had a rocky start with HPU trailing 4-1, but the Sharks battled back with two solid kills from sophomore Perla Escobar of Calexico, Calif./Calexico to pull within one. An Argo four-point run was stemmed by a Collie kill and a Pyle block, but NDNU rattled off a 6-0 run and kills from Pyle and Escobar weren't enough to take the set as the Argos closed it out at 25-15.
 
The hotly contested third set opened even at 7-all with three kills from Collie answered by three from the NDNU's Rowan Jack, before the Argos went on a took a 6-0 run.  After exchanging points, the Sharks answered with 4-0 run started off a kill from Collie and continued by a kill from freshman Abigail Wilmington of Vancouver, Wash./Columbia River to pull within two at 19-17. However, after exchanging a point each, the Argos finished the match with two kills from Alvarez and two aces from Jack to win 25-18.
 
HPU heads out on a four-match California road trip starting with Azusa Pacific on Nov. 6. The Sharks has one last home game on Nov. 17 against Chaminade.
