TURLOCK, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University posted a big win and a heartbreaking loss in the opening day of the City of Turlock Tournament of Champions at Pedretti Sports Complex on Friday.
The Sharks (15-15) saw No. 2 Humboldt State (22-4) score five runs in the top of the seventh inning to beat HPU 5-4 in the opening game of the tournament. HPU turned around and clobbered Cal State Dominguez Hills 10-3 in the Sharks second game of the day.
HPU scored twice in the second inning against HSU and twice in the sixth – including a pinch hit 2-run home run by freshman
Emiliee Leonard – to carry a 4-0 lead into the seventh. But back-to-back one out bases loaded errors allowed two Humboldt State runs to scores, followed by a run forced in by a hit batter, and a 2-RBI single by HSU's Sydney Roberts to take the lead.
Against CSU Dominguez Hills, the Sharks broke open a 3-3 game in the fourth inning with four runs and added insurance runs in the fifth and seventh innings.

Mari Kajiwara was 3-for-6 in the two games with four RBI, including a 2-for3 game two with three RBI. In game two
Sienna Santiago was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
HPU is back in action in the tournament on Saturday, facing host Stanislaus State at 1:30 p.m. HST (4:30 p.m. PDT) and Sonoma State at 4 p.m. HST (7 p.m. PDT).
