FPU centerfielder Baron Bower was 4-for-8 on the day, with four RBI and four runs scored, including his second home run of the season.

The teams split the four-game PacWest series as HPU had won the single games on Thursday and Friday nights.

HPU is back in action next Friday when it hosts the first of two doubleheaders with Dixie State, ranked 13th by Collegiate Baseball and 23rd by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, at 4 p.m. at Hans L'Orange Park.

Game One

The Sunbirds scored four runs in both the first and second innings, all off of HPU starter Blake Flint, as they cruised to a 13-6 win over the Sharks.

FPU scored all of their runs in the first inning with two out, as the Sunbirds picked up a walk and single sandwiched between two outs, and added another walk to load the bases. Joey Gallegos followed with a 2-RBI single and moved up to second on the throw home. McKay France smacked a 2-RBI single to center to up the score to 4-0, but was pegged at second trying to advance to second following a throw to the plate.

In the second, FPU got a leadoff single, then a one-out double to put runners at second and third. Eddie Sievers picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice as a throw to the plate was not in time to get Derek Arkelian. Flint then hit Bower to load the bases. Flint was forced from the game. Braden Frankfort collected a sacrifice fly and Hunter Villanueva slapped a 2-RBI single for the second four-run frame.

HPU answered with a pair of runs in the third and sixth innings.

Austin Inabata and Trey Yukumoto singled with one out in the third, and moved up on a fly out. Inabata scored on Fresno Pacific pitcher Nic Boatman's wild pitch. Torres-Torioka doubled to left to plate Yukumoto for HPU's second run.

In the sixth, Tokunaga reached on a Sunbird fielding error and went to second when Boatman's throwing error on a failed pickoff attempt that sent Tokunaga to third. Then Torres-Torioka grounded to short to drive in Tokunaga, but reached on an errant throw. Hoppie doubled down the line and Jordan Mopas drove in Torres-Torioka with a sacrifice fly.

But Fresno responded to having their lead cut to 8-4 with a five-run seventh.
