Draw It Up Six Times, Sharks and ARTU tie 1-1

SAN FRANCISCO – Hawai'i Pacific University allowed a goal in the 87th minute and finished with a 1-1 tie with Academy of Art in PacWest Conference play at the CCSF Soccer Field Saturday evening.

The Sharks (5-5-6, 3-2-4) tied for the second straight game and the sixth time this season in their ninth overtime game in 2018. The Urban Knights (7-7-2, 1-6-2) recorded their second consecutive tie.

Hawai'I Pacific got on the board in the 19th minute when freshman Brittny Ihara of Pearl City, Hawai'i/Pearl City got an open shot off a cross from junior Ebony Madrid of Porterville, Calif./Ramstein (Germany) and sent it into the net. It was Ihara's second goal of the season and in as many games.

The Sharks 1-0 lasted almost to the end.

In the 86th minute Urban Knight Avica Robings collected a ball from Reyna Valencia and followed it in for her second score of the year and tied the contest at 1-1.

HPU fired 25 shots at the Urban Knights, including three in the overtimes. ARTU shot only six times, once in overtime, in the tie.

HPU senior goalkeeper Lauren Spencer of Oxford, Mich./Oxford posted three saves against a goal in ARTU's six attempts.

ARTU starting keeper Morgan Wirz had four saves with a goal allowed before being lifted in the 62nd minute. Replacement Lara Pflicke had three saves the rest of the way in keeping a clean sheet.

The Sharks have one more contest on the road as they visit Fresno to meet Fresno Pacific. The match is slated to kickoff at 4:30 p.m. HST (7:30 p.m. PDT) Tuesday at Ramierez Field.
