WAIPAHU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University allowed two unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning as Minnesota Crookston came back for a 5-4 win on Sunday afternoon at Hans L'Orange Park.
The Sharks (3-1) lost for the first time this season, as the Golden Eagles (1-3) collected their first win.
Senior third baseman
Wyatt Hoppie of Orange, Calif./Villa Park and sophomore second baseman
Trey Yukumoto of Waipahu, Hawai'i/Leilehua led the Sharks by going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Junior righthander
Charlie Brooks of Ventura, Calif./Buena (0-1) took a tough loss for HPU, while UMC's Gabriel Cavasos (1-0) picked up the win in relief.
The Golden Eagles took an early lead in the first with Brooks balking twice to allow UMC's Anthony Stewart a free run. UMC would score again the next inning on an error making it 2-0 at the end of two.

In the fourth HPU plated a pair of runs to take the lead. Bumann added his own sacrifice fly bringing in senior

Trey Yukumoto followed with an RBI with a single to center brining senior catcher
Kreston Woods home for a 3-2 lead.
Junior
Tanner Tokunaga got things going in the fifth when he doubled down the right field line and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Hoppie came through with an RBI single through the left side giving the Sharks a 4-2 lead.
The Eagles came back with a run in the sixth on a pair of doubles to make it 4-3. Then took the lead for good in the seventh by plating one run on a pair of throwing errors to tie the game, and seeing UMC's Reed Hjelle loft a sacrifice fly for the go ahead run.
Brooks went 6.0 innings for the Sharks with five strikeouts, while allowing five runs – three earned – and six hits with a walk. Sophomore lefty
Conlan Myers of Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View went a third of an inning while giving up a hit. Senior righthander Billy Clemens of Tempe, Ariz./Corona Del Sol struck gave up a hit and a walk in the final 2.2 innings.
Cavasos picked up the win going two innings with a strikeout and allowing one hit in relief of Justin Yutrzenka who fanned two and walked two while allowing four runs on five hits in four innings. Zach Seipel chalked up his first save by striking out four, allowing one hit and a walk in the final three innings.
HPU is back in action again on Friday when Saint Martin's visits for a four-game set. First pitch is 6 p.m. at Hans L'Orange Park.
