WAIPAHU, Hawai'i – The No. 19 Hawai'i Pacific University men's tennis team collected a victory on Friday afternoon downing Bethel (Minn.) 7-2 at Central Oahu Regional Park.
 
The Sharks (1-9) picked up wins in two doubles points and all of the contested singles points to down the Royals (4-4).
 
The Sharks opened up the day with an 8-0 shutout at No. 1 doubles with the 20th ranked pair of 
Maxime Gayte and 
Benjamin Loccisano beating Hunter Fernelius and Zach Kantor. HPU also won at No. 2 doubles as 
Juan Erro/
Jack Lyttle beat Jakob Bartels/Zeke Delain 8-5.
 
The only loss contested on the court was at No. 3 doubles, where Bethel's Nick Knudsen/Noah Ridgway beat the Sharks 
Adrian Elduque/
Gerardo Irrarrazabal 8-5.
 
Singles followed with Elduque defaulting his point to Peter Lindberg to even the match at 2-2.
 
Then the Sharks swept the Royals at the other five singles spots.
 
Loccisano, ranked 27th in Division II by the ITA, beat Hunter 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, while Gayte beat Kantor a 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2. Lyttle rolled over Knudsen 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3, Erro was triumphant at No. 4 over Bartels 6-2, 6-1, and Irrarrazabal won at No. 5 against Delain 6-1, 6-0.
 
The victory in their only home meet of the season sends the Sharks into a nearly month-long break on a positive note. HPU doesn't play again until it meets No. 1 West Florida in Pensacola on April 13.
