WAIPAHU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University allowed only one goal on Thursday afternoon, but that was all Hawai'i Hilo needed to take a 1-0 non-conference victory at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex Field 5.
The Sharks (1-3-1) were shut out for the second time this season, while the Vulcans (1-1-1) picked up their first win in three contests.
The Vulcans collected the game's only goal in the 64th minute as Tiera Arakawa posted her first goal of the year from the middle top of the box off a pass from Bryana-Marie Ebbers.
The goal was the only blemish on the sheet of HPU senior goalkeeper
Lauren Spencer of Oxford, Mich./Oxford who collected three saves versus the Vulcans 14 shots.
UHH's Bailey Cahill recorded three saves against the Sharks 10 shots.
The Sharks now get ready to open the PacWest Conference on Saturday afternoon as Azusa Pacific visits HPU. Kickoff at Waipio's Field 5 is slated for 3 p.m., following the men's game between the schools.
