WAIPAHU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University stopped every attempt that Hawai'i Hilo fired at it as HPU grabbed a 1-0 PacWest Conference victory at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex Field 5 on Sunday afternoon.
The Sharks (4-3-1, 1-1) defense proved to be too much for the Vulcans (1-4-2, 0-1) who failed to find the back of the net.
Senior
Ebony Madrid of Porterville, Calif./Ramstein (Germany) broke the scoreless tie in the 77th minute for the lone goal of the contest that gave the Sharks their second win against the Vulcans in the last eight days.
That's not to say that UHH didn't try. The Vulcans peppered the net with 20 shots in the game, but HPU sophomore goalkeeper
Marissa Froio of Simi Valley, Calif./Royal made seven saves for her first shutout this season.
Vulcan goalkeeper Bailey Cahill recorded four saves with the goal allowed on 14 HPU shots.
The Sharks continue PacWest Conference play on Saturday afternoon at cross-town rival Chaminade. Kickoff is set for Noon on St. Louis Field.
