KAILUA-KONA, Hawai'i – No. 4 Hawai'i Pacific University dropped only one singles set in a straight sweep of Holy Names 7-0 at the Houla Tennis Center.
The fourth ranked Sharks (2-0) racked up a win in the first of two matches in Kailua-Kona. The Hawks (2-1) fell for the first time this season.
HPU collected the doubles point by sweeping all three sets.
Elisa Elhadj and
Elodie Busson took the No. 1 position with a 6-1 win against Jahan Bayramova and Dominique Ernst. At No. 2,
Mihoki Miyahara and Nichole Ballach won 6-3 against Symone Jacques and Lada Baglaeva and Debora Echeverriea and
Sarah Ikioka took down Eilis Work and Macy Barajas 6-1 at No. 3.
The only set HPU dropped in the singles competition was at No. 2, where Busson dropped her first set to Baglaeva 3-6, then won the second set in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-5) and won the match in a third set super tiebreaker 10-8.
At the No. 1 spot, Elhadj downed Bayramova 6-3, 6-0, while Miyahara downed Ernst 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. Echeverria claimed the No. 4 spot over Jacques 6-1, 6-0, as Ikioka won at No. 5 against Barajas 6-0, 6-4, and
Heloise Le Normand beat Work 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6.
HPU continues its action at Houla on Monday when the face Hawai'i Hilo. The match is set for a 10 a.m. start.
