SAN ANTONIO – No. 4 Hawai'i Pacific University was upset by No. 23 Tarleton State 4-3 to open a week-long Texas trip on Monday at the Northside Tennis Center.
The No. 4 Sharks (5-2) won the top two singles positions and the doubles point, but fell in the bottom four positions.
With the match tied at 3-3, Tarleton's Sherine Salem tripped up the Sharks
Debora Echeverria 7-6 in a tiebreaker in set two after winning set one 6-4 to give the TexAnns the win.
HPU's
Elodie Busson collected two points in the win, first teaming with
Elisa Elhadj to win at No. 1 doubles 6-1 over Alicia Barbaroux and Salem. Then she took down No. 43 Barbaroux 6-1, 6-3 to win the number one singles point.
The Sharks
Mihoki Miyahara also doubled up, teaming with
Nicole Ballach to win at No. 2 doubles over Neetika Sud and Faustine Palatte 6-1, then took a three-set victory at No. 2 singles over Sud 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.
The No. 3 doubles set between Echeverria/
Sarah Ikioka of HPU and Nathalie Ulander/Sofija Hrovat went unfinished with Ulander/Hrovat up 4-3.
The TexAnns also won at No. 4 with Palatte beating Ikioka 6-4, 6-1, with Ulander handing Ballach a 6-3, 6-1 defeat at No. 5, and Hrovat knocking off
Jayme Waites 6-3, 7-6 at No. 6.
The Sharks play at No. 21 St. Mary's (Texas) tomorrow in the Alamo city. First serve is scheduled for 4:30 a.m. HST (9:30 a.m. CDT).
